03:21 pm - knitting, for real! No pictures... but I felt like mentioning that I knit last night. Actually knit, not just finishing work on an old project.. btu actually made stitches on an old project.... First time in WEEKS! I just have had so many other things to do while I'm watching TV at night... and then I get tired and *think* about grabbing my knitting... which is really only an arms length away from me when I'm on the couch... but I never actually get around to it.
Worked on the scarf of leftovers... couple leftovers in my stash that I decided to combined in a deliciously pink & purple and somewhat rather hideous scarf. Fun times ;) it's pretty nubbly. It'll be fun to wear though :) Just a couple more rows to finish it off, then I'll take some pictures....
Not sure if I'll be able to really pick it back up right now, though - in just a few days I'll be starting up my first rotation! then it'll be a crazy week of getting ready to head out East, and then I'll be out East!! Hoping to pack a couple of sock projects, if nothing else... but at the end of the day I'm going for 2 months, don't own real luggage, and need bring a lot of frackin' stuff...
...maybe I should by a real suitcase for myself.. some sort of "yay, externship!" present... these black duffel bags I usually use are kind of awkward to lug around and I think I could fit more into a proper suitcase..

09:37 pm - food is good So tonight, for the first time in I don't know when, I made a real dinner. Chicken, mashed potatoes, peas.. it was delish. And I made enough to cover me for tomorrow as well. Serving sizes a little massive, perhaps, so maybe even for Tuesday as well.
Then, after some studying, I had some Skor ice cream and some delish chocolate mint tea. Good times for the tum tum!
Jocelyn let me off the hook for evening kennels at the Cat Clinic today, so I thought I'd have plenty of time at home for taking Ollie to the dog park... but then I almost fell asleep on the bus and realized nap was definitely needed..
Unfortunately for Ollie, my naps was ridiculously long, because when I first woke up I had a headache and didn't want to move... so no park for him :( After work/school dog walks don't work well for me, what with the tiredness. Working 10-6 tomorrow, pretty sure I will not be getting up early enough for a pre-work dog park trip... maybe a walk... but not counting on it. (have to catch bus at 915, and I like sleeping in... :P )
My bus pass expires May 12th, and I've got the OK to bring Ollie into OVC whenever I'm working the desk, so he'll get at least 2 good walks a day after that.
Making good progress on the studying, but I'm not feeling very good about how much is sticking in my brain... bit troubling... still about a week and and a half to keep studying, though, so there's hope for me yet!
Anyhow, did some serious groceries today and should be living off more than just cereal and peanut butter and jam sandwiches for the next while. Yay me! Have some stuffs to make something in the crock pot even, should be yummiliscious. Also trying a chicken recipe potentially to serve Matt & Janessa, since they keep feeing me and I'd like to return the favour. There's 3 marinated chicken breasts in the freezer just waiting for their chances.. (the recipe says they can stay there for 3 months, but hopefully it doesn't take me that long to get those 2 over for dinner!!)

09:13 pm - I'm a bad mother!! So, I get home from work and settle in for some studying... study for about an hour, and then notice that Ollie's breakfast is still on the counter!! I never put it on the floor for him! I don't know what distracted me in the morning, but poor boy had been all day without a meal! He was super excited when I got home, which was odd, but I figured he was just in a goofy mood.
Anyhow, after I fed him and made myself some kettle corn, I curled up on the couch to watch 27 dresses. No laptop, no knitting, no nothing but cuddles! He loves his cuddles, so I think he forgives me :)
27 Dresses was pretty sweet... and funny... but also made me feel lonely.. I want a best friend and/or somebody to love. Really, just a best friend would be a good start (like, a best friend who's actually in Guelph and accessible :P )
now I'm onto season 2 of BSG and doing a bit of emailing, etc before a potentially early night. Also potentially not an early night - Shauna's over at Brendan's, and he's had a rough day. If he wakes up from his nap I'll be heading over with brownies and we might go down to the bar.
Tomorrow will be a big cleaning day.. dirty dishes have been having babies in my kitchen, as that is the only explanation for how there's so many already... Need to do some groceries as well, need food for taking to work and such.
Oh, speaking of work, Jocelyn (vet I work for at Cat Clinic) told me that Anne Marie (other vet at Cat Clinic, who got me the job and was one of my references for vet school) is leaving the clinic at the end of June :( She's going to go work for Medi-Cal. probably for the best, because she was starting to get a little burnt out with clinic work/life style. Industry will probably be good for her. But I'll miss her! And I didn't get a chance to ask Jocelyn if she's already looking for a replacement or not. . . I leave at the end of June as well, so I guess it doesn't really matter when she brings in a new second vet... but if I'm going to do rotations there, it would be nice to know if there'll be someone new to be working with...
K, need to go find my cell phone if Shauna's going to text me when Brendan wakes up.. Current Location: my couch Current Mood: relaxed Current Music: BSG season 2 disc 1

09:22 pm - so wet! was raining HUGE for my way home from work... which involved standing at the bus stop for like 20 minutes. soaked to the bone, I am. (I knew it was supposed to rain, but I can never remember to bring my umbrella unless it's raining when I'm leaving...)
Got my OHIP card renewed today and it took like 10 minutes or less. Going to a satellite centre is the way to go! It's appointment only so NO LINE UP. love it.
Got my first OVC-caf ice cream of the summer... this summer they have BANANA flavour! It's like banana popsicles - aka one of my FAVOURITE flavours.
In other good news, the dentistry elective that was canceled is back on! yay!
Having a chill weekend - no real plans, but work and study and some planned groceries..
Oh, got the official letter from the Academic Review Committee - go ahead for the rewrite (reminder that it's my last one), blah blah blah $50 blah blah blah... week of May 12th is the likely date of the rewrite, so next week will be big time study week. Printed off all of the notes Marie made me today, since the better I can do the better I'll feel about the situation. On the high side: no stipulation of meeting with Dr Lissemore! woot! On the boo side: yes stipulation of meeting with Dr Conlon. To discuss resources to aid me with my academic difficulties. PFFFFFFFFFT! Useless. He didn't tell me anything new last summer, as being aware of academic resources used to be my JOB. I doubt things have really changed much.
Anyhow, tonight I'm chilling with BSG & random snacks. Probably going to bed early, like the loser I am! Gotta work at the Cat Clinic tomorrow, need the sleepy sleepies. Current Location: my couch Current Mood: blank Current Music: BSG season 1 disc 4

03:11 pm - Things that shouldn't have to be said. . . The following notice is posted in the washroom by the library at OVC:
"Please do not leave you used sanitary products on the floor (no matter how hidden you think they are) Not only is this incredibly unhygienic, it is very disgusting for not only others who use the washrooms, but the people who are responsible for cleaning them. The garbage can is the appropriate receptacle. Thank you."
Seriously?! seriously... that should never EVER need to be started! It's not like the garbage can is hard to find, and it's not a very large washroom... seriously..

02:33 pm - Misc updates This weekend my mum was visiting, it snowed a lot, we brought Fluff to London for his radioactive iodine treatment, and it snowed a lot, went to see Jumper, and it snowed even more. . .
Sunday there was a lot of snow in my back yard, and Ollie enjoyed it a great deal. We played fetch with his squeaky ball, a frisbee, and a cotton rope I bought him when the frisbee disapeared over the fence....
I also read a lot this weekend. Didn't want to study with my mum there, so I read. And I read in the long car ride to and from London. Last week I started into my annual comfort reading, and now I'm getting into my favourite bits of the Little House on the Prairie books :) (these and the Anne of Green Gables books are my comfort reads - I read both sets almost every year... Morgan horses came up in class the other day, which made me think of Almanzo's horses, and then I wanted to read the Little House books again! The box set I have my dad gave me for Christmas almost 20 years ago now, so they have a delightful old book smell and look well read :) )
Brought the laptop to school today, because I was hugely behind in emails. So I haven't been paying attention very much today.. oops...
This morning was my last midterm exam EVER. EEEEEEEEEEEVEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRR. Pretty stoked about that. Can't celebrate tonight, though, because tomorrow morning bright and early I'm anesthetizing a dog for a spay surgery from which it will be recovering... our first REAL surgery!! We have a 10 month old German Shepherd, and she's crazy but very nice. So tonight I need to read up on my anesthesia stuff so I'm completely ready.. need to figure out how to premedicate her (we want some serious sedation so we can get a catheter in without too much hassle.. she was a pill and a half to get blood from this morning!), and think about analgesia (considering her surgeons will be unexperienced and probably handle the tissues a bit more than typical so she might have a bit more post-operative pain than your standard out-in-practice spay...)
Hopefully, though, data entry won't take too long tonight and I'll be home in time for some fetch with Ollie before I get down to work.
(Hoepfully, if they've left all the cases since Thursday for me to do they've at least opened the envelopes for me.... I took 2 days off because I was starting to get really annoyed with that job, which will probably make it extra annoying tonight...) 10:52 pm - Delicious Apple Crsip I needed some comfort food without spending any money, so I took an apple crisp recipe I had for my slow cooker, a bunch of apples I had kicking around, and went nuts. turned out absolutely frickin' DELICIOUS!
if you have a slow cooker and would like some apple cinnamony yumyums, here's what I did: (also so to remember what I did for the next time I want some!)
took all the apples i had, which i didn't count, so.. uh.. a bunch. sliced them up with my apple corer/slicer (yay, IKEA!) mixed apple slices in a bowl with a heaping tablespoon of cinnamon, a cup of granulated sugar, tablespoon plus a splash of lemon juice, and a teaspoon of all purpose whole wheat flour.
in a seperate bowl, melted half a cup of butter and mixed into that 1 cup of dark brown sugar, and 2 cups of rolled oats (yes, this is seriously stuff I just had laying about my kitchen...)
put about half the oat stuff on the bottom of slow cooker, then dumped in the apples, then the rest of the oat stuff. high heat for 3 hours (could have maybe done left).
DELICIOUS WARM CINNAMONY GOODNESS.
it's possible I could eat the whole potful tonight, except i'm too comfy on the couch to get up for more... Current Location: my couch Current Mood: comforted

10:37 pm - coming out of the closet.... I can't stop watching Girlicious. Am I alone on this one? I caught the first episode by chance, and was so blown away by how RIDICULOUS these girls are, so I keep coming back...
Seriously - is anyone else watching this? Can anyone understand when I say, what the HELL is wrong with Natalie? She is unbelievable! Really makes me appreciative for the bitches in my life, since none are nearly as nasty and full of themselves as she is....

09:50 am - movie meme answers you guys collectively got 7/16, not too shabby! ;)
1) Happy Feet 2) Moulin Rouge 3) Neverending Story (the Childlike Empress, towards the end, talking about Bastien..) 4) The Last Unicorn 5) Enchanted (perhaps unfair to use a movie not yet out on DVD... but I loved it so!) 6) Sidney White (see it. it's surprisingly entertaining.) 7) Pride & Prejudice (had the Keira Knightly one specifically in mind. I love Mr Bennet, such a funny guy!) 8) A Knight's Tale 9) 10 Things I Hate About you 10)Hairspray (turpentine seems so random!) 11)Serenity (good ol' Jayne...) 12)Anastasia (I can watch this movie over and over just because of Bartok...) 13)50 First Dates (can't resist a movie with a penguin in it!) 14)Pirates of the Carribean 15)Gone With the Wind 16)Becoming Jane (this movie totally made me fall in love with James McAvoy...) 04:19 pm - oh my god the cute! Just met the newest addition to my landlord's family: an 8 week old blue merle Australian Shepherd!! He is SOOOOO cute. And soft. And sweet. And he just made a puppy noise up by the laundry door and I love it.
ADORABLE.
Can't wait to watch it playing in the backyard when it gets a bit bigger (or the snow melts a bit more... right now I think his head would hardly poke out above the snow....)

10:09 pm - fyi I'm pretty much in love with Summer Glau. She was all kinds of awesome as River, and now she's about 50 million times more awesome as a terminator.
Also, I really enjoy the Sarah Connor Chronicles, and wish I was home Monday night more often. The show upped the awesomeness this week with the addition of Brian Austen-Green. fanfrickintastic!
I need to get Terminator-2 into my movie collection. I was so obsessed with that movie as a child. And I was hugely in love with Edward Furlong, not gonna lie. Oh the memories..

04:30 pm - seriously? The University is closing at 7pm. Seriously? Neverminding that the university has closed more this past year than it did in my first 6 years at Guelph.... 7pm? (yes, I know there's night classes and those people will probably be glad to not have to consider travelling home at 10pm in this weather.. but still.)
On the plus side - I just called the person I had a 6:30 appointment with to see if we're still on given the university closure... and he was double booked and had emailed me to ask me to reschedule, but I never recieved that email! So if I hadn't have been calling I would've been hanging out in the library for 2 hours for no reason...
Now I will go home and prepare for surgery tomorrow... school better frickin' be open :P
UPDATE: literally a minute after I posted this originally, the library clerk came around to announce a change in plan: University is closing at 5pm. AKA now. awesome.
ETA: After the brutally long "express" bus ride home, I say good call to the university. good god it's awful out there. I could barely get into my backyard.
Ollie? Wants to be out in the backyard. Yes, I have let him out to experience the icey snow downpouring. He still thinks snow=awesome. *sigh* Current Location: OVC library Current Mood: blank

09:16 pm - RIP Heath Ledger Oddly enough, I just happened to watch 10 Things I Hate About You last night as my post-exam happy-making movie.. and was wondering what Heath Ledger was up to lately. I've been excited for Dark Knight to come out - his Joker looks terrific.
The article someone at work showed me listed a bunch of his work, and it left out 2 of my favourites: the show Roar and the aforementioned 10 Things :P I actually own 7 of the 15 movies he's done since (and including) 10 Things.. be a lie to say I'm not a fan! Actually, I remember in high school a couple of my friends and I were quite huge fans... cut out articles from the newspaper and had pictures in our agendas kind of fans ;) And Roar always makes me think of my old roommate, Kari, who was likely the best roommate ever...
Anyhow, sadness. He was only a few years older than I, and he could have had really quite the career.
Tonight I'm watching A Knight's Tale, another favourite... really need to get this on DVD, my tape is getting a bit warn and the tracking is going... Current Location: my couch Current Mood: sad Current Music: A Knight's Tale

01:22 pm - Lesson learned... ...pay more attention when buying shoes at Winner's.
Finally got to wear the pretty red shoes I bought about three months ago. Was really hard to get the one shoe on, but I chalked it up to having just recently having kicked a chair and my foot as a bit bruised and swollen.
But then later in the evening when I got the shoe off (which was a challenge), the size sticker had come off and I was able to see the original printed size on the actual shoe...
left shoe: 8 1/2 right show: 7 1/2 :|
Can't believe I didn't noticed one was markedly smaller than the other!!! And a friend of mine used to work at Winner's and said that they're actually encouraged to sell mismatched shoes with monetary incentives! GR!
ah well. I can get the shoe on, and I can walk in it... so I guess they're still good for anytime I don't have to do too much moving around. Certainly not for all day wear or for dancing, but oh well. Shame really, they are super fabulous shoes and the one that fits was pretty comfortable...
(my foot is bruised and swollen from the accidental chair kicking, though, so am even more astounished that i even got the size-too-small shoe on in the first place..) Current Location: LAC reception Current Mood: annoyed
